ER5183 is the first choice — its higher manganese content delivers high as-welded strength with weld toughness and marine corrosion resistance to match; ER5356 serves general structural welds, and 5556 is the same-class alternative. 3. The design reality: HAZ softening三、設計必須面對的事實:HAZ 軟化

Strain-hardened 5xxx armor plate (H131/H116) softens in the weld heat-affected zone back toward the annealed (O) condition. For 5083, the biggest drop is in yield strength — from roughly the 215 MPa class down to the 125–145 MPa class — while minimum as-welded tensile strength sits around 275 MPa. 4. Naval craft and offshore platforms四、艦艇與海上平台

Patrol boats, fast attack craft and shipboard structures run heavily on 5083/5383/5059 plate with 6xxx extrusions. The filler logic matches commercial marine practice: 5xxx plate takes ER5183 (high strength) or ER5356 (general structure); 6xxx extrusions take ER5356 or ER4043 by joint requirement. Most defense procurement is not armor: ground support equipment, communication shelters, weapon transport racks and UAV structures are built from 6061/6063 extrusions and 5052/5083 plate.
